Early learning

Creative Junk remains committed to supporting teachers and parents by providing inexpensive materials for use in early childhood learning. Creative play is so important to the way children learn and grow. In fact, it was early learning that inspired us from the very beginning. Back in the 1980s we realised that there was a lack of inexpensive creative resources for use in the early childhood environment. We set about changing that – and have grown into a creative resource centre for the whole community.
We specialise in safe, recyclable items from a wide variety of sources. We collect items from people in the community as well as local industries – where we find some of the most interesting materials – and sell them in our store. Take a look at our gallery to get an idea of what we stock, but you really need to visit our warehouse/ retail shop in Disraeli Street to see what we have. As well as recycled materials, we buy in some art and craft supplies from wholesalers and offer them at competitive prices to our customers.
If you can’t make it into the store we can send materials to you!

Teacher support
We run workshops for teachers, linking our resources to the technology, maths, science and art curricula, and the ECE curriculum Te Whāriki. These workshops are held at our premises and off-site at schools, early childhood centres and community venues. Want to find out more? Call us: 03 379 4040.
Community focus
Creative Junk gets involved in a number of community events, including Children’s Day, Kidsfest, Santa Parades (Christchurch and New Brighton), FESTA and the River of Flowers.
We work on a wide range of other community group events — for early childhood services, schools, OSCAR programmes, church groups and Christchurch City Council — to support the culture of recycle, reuse, rethink. use in the early childhood environment.
